“The past and the present are within my field of inquiry, but what a man may do in the future is a hard question to answer.”

– (quoted by Sherlock Holmes), The Hound of Baskervilles, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

The Novel begins in the moors at Baskerville Hall and the nearby Gripmen Mire, the terrifying and chilling hound howls for blood haunting Dartmoor in Devonshire. Yet another case, another mystery and another crime to unravel and solve. This case was surely a pen ticking, mind boggling and nail nibbling case but with the world famous detective, Sherlock Holmes and his best acquaintance, Dr.Watson on the run, it felt like a snap of a finger.

Of all the novels written by Sir. Arthur Conan Doyle that I have read, this was the most gripping, enthralling, captivating, engrossing and fascinating. I assure you that this novel will give you chills down your spine and goosebumps all over your body. You won’t be able to take your eyes off until the last page is turned over! When I finished this marvellous and one-of-a-kind masterpiece, adrenaline was rushing through my veins and I felt a little sad that this masterpiece had to come to an end… but, an end and a case which has always been my forever favourite!

The style of writing of Sir. Arthur Conan Doyle is perhaps the most unique and intriguing for readers. His most noticeable style is the wide use of adjectives to provide great detail for the readers, in the memoirs of Sherlock Holmes, is mostly done by the bombarding of Dr.Watson.I think, the favourite and probably the most celebrated Sherlock Holmes-Dr.Watsonpact has the largest fan base in the world! The best part about this novel is that it doesn’t have the same boring tone throughout like most of the stories have, this novel has different tones at different times -earnest, reverent (of Holmes), uncertain, and ominous.

So, based on a local legend of a devil-beast that haunts the moors around the Baskerville family’s home and warns the descendants of that ancient clan never to venture out in those dark hours when the power of evil is exalted. With the death of most recent Baskerville, Sir. Charles death and the hound’s footprints around his body, will the next heir of the Baskerville’s family have the same fate?

Read this gripping piece and find out 😊
